Smart Building Certification is proud to award YIT, the real estate developer, a Platinum Smart Building Certification for its Workery+ Vallila hybrid office development. The 17.000 sq meter property, which was delivered mid 2021, is the first in Finland to achieve the certification.

The previous Telia headquarters in the Vallila district of Helsinki was refurbished for YIT as a living lab for innovation, smart building technologies, and different real estate applications. YIT, the developers of the Workery+ concept are taking the lab learnings into their development process for better building developments moving forward. Smart Building Certification is proud to apply the SBC methodology to the

Workery+ Vallila and support the smart development framework of YIT and their smart ambitions.

The requirements for the certificate are classified in 6 categories

1) building usage 2) building performance 3) health safety and security 4) building environment 5) user experience and collaboration 6) connectivity and integrative design. Workery+ Vallila received an overall PLATINUM with individual high scores in all 6 areas of the certification.

YIT’s creative thinking and holistic approach is exactly what Smart Building Certification wants to recognize and share. Workery+ Vallila received PLATINUM certification because of the sheer scope, breadth, and depth of their smart building application with an astute focus on user experience, and ability to measure and manage how user expectations are being met in every way imaginable. This astute focus on the user experience has allowed them to not only increase the satisfaction of the space, but invent new business models and ways of managing the space via the smart building technology. Next to this, they scored top of class for building performance, building environment, and building usage, which show a concentrated focus on user health, building sustainability, and heightened control and management. With this certification performance, YIT claimed the top of class spot and the SBC 2021 Smartest Building Award.

In each category there is an ability to gain innovation points, where high scores for innovation were identified across the board. The YIT team has found many ways to impact and interact with society, the environment, and universities for shared thought leadership to support the smart, sustainable, and healthy movement.

The Smart Building Certification, which has been developed to promote wellbeing, sustainability, performance, innovation, and health and safety in the built environment, recognises buildings that have smart tech infrastructure in place to evaluate a building’s behavior and performance. The first building awarded Platinum Smart Building Certification was EDGE Olympic Amsterdam.
